Many people are under the assumption that they have to be a millionaire to live a luxurious lifestyle. While it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a sizable bank account, you don’t have to have millions to enjoy the good life. For some, excess is the definition of luxury. The more you have in terms of a home, property, money, toys (RV’s, ATVs, boats, etc.), the richer you feel. So, how can you live the life of luxury when you’re not one of the lucky few with millions or even billions in money and assets?
First, simplify your life. The ultimate goal is to live a quality life, one you thoroughly enjoy and appreciate. When you simplify and de-clutter, you have at least a bit more money in the bank. Learn to appreciate quality rather than accumulating a lot of “stuff” that doesn’t really add to your enjoyment or quality of life. For instance, if you’re not a big golf fan do you really need all those clubs, accessories, and a golf cart? Is that in-ground pool in the backyard for your enjoyment, or primarily for the show?
Realize that new things lead to a snowball effect of continuous buying. Given today’s rapidly advancing technological world, lots of people feel they have to have that newest “gadget” right now. Whether it’s a fancier car, the latest smartphone, tablet, or that $1,000 pair of designer shoes, do you really need it? Trying to keep up with all of the latest trends will prevent you from living your ultimate life and feeling rich (and blessed), especially if you don’t have an unlimited budget. Sometimes we buy things in an effort to feel more satisfied or fill a void. This isn’t what a life of luxury is about!
Think of a luxury lifestyle in terms of the quality of people and experiences in your life. Who really cares if you can afford Chanel or Jimmy Choo? No one, other than yourself. It’s not about impressing people, it’s about close, quality relationships; experiences that are fun and enrich your life; and items that you truly love whether in furnishings, art, jewelry, antiques, family heirlooms, etc.
Giving is the secret to abundance in your life. You don’t have to give away what money you do have, but lending your time, energy, and financial support (when you can) allows abundance and wealth to flow into your own life.
Luxury has many definitions and means very different things to different people. Allow yourself to live a luxurious life, and do away with negative thinking that makes you believe it’s a goal you cannot achieve.
